There are two main steps that need to be taken to earn your CMIT (Construction Manager In Training) designation. First you must join CMAA (Construction Management Association of America). Second you must register to take the Capstone Assessment to receive your CMIT.
Step 1: Joining the CMAA
1. Go to http://cmaanet.org/
2. Click “Become A Member” in the green box in the top right corner of the screen.
3. Scroll to find the green box labelled “Click Here To Get Started” and click there.
4. A “Create Your Account Page” will appear. Fill in all of the information with the red asterisk, and fill out any other information you feel is applicable to you. The only category you are required to fill out without an asterisk is the “Primary Type of Firm” category at the very bottom. Please select “Student”.
5. A “Your Account has been created” screen will appear with the message “Thank you for registering for the CMAA Portal. You will receive an email with your username and a link to the portal, where you can create your password.”
6. Go to your email and find the email titled “Your CMAA Account Information” and click the blue link that says “Click here to sign in”.
7. A screen will appear that says “Reset Password”. This is where you will enter a new password for your account.
8. Once logged in, click “Store” at the top of your screen. Then click “Membership” on the left-hand side of your screen and below that select “Individual Membership.” Find the box titled “Student Member” and click “Add to Cart”.
9. Fill out the “Student information” section and upload a copy of your unofficial transcript (ignore current school schedule) which you can obtain from WebPortal, along with your expected graduation date and our school’s name (San Diego State University).
10. Click the shopping cart in the top right corner and checkout. Have a credit/debit card ready to process your payment. (It should cost $25 to become a student member)
